Landing at LCE
Golóson International Airport (IATA code LCE) sits on the western side of La Ceiba, a short drive from downtown and the malecón. It's the main gateway to Honduras's north coast, with flights connecting to Roatán, San Pedro Sula, Tegucigalpa, and seasonal service to the Cayman Islands — which makes it a natural first or last stop for a Caribbean coast-and-islands trip.
Why rent a car here
Public transport along the north coast is limited outside the city, and many of the best day trips from La Ceiba are 20–45 minutes outside town — having your own car means you're not stuck coordinating shuttles or waiting on a tour bus schedule. Picking up right at the airport also means you skip a taxi into town just to start your trip.
Popular day trips from the airport
- Pico Bonito National Park — rainforest trails, waterfalls, and birdwatching, a short drive from the airport.
- Río Cangrejal — Honduras's main whitewater rafting river, with class II–IV runs year-round.
- Cayos Cochinos — a boat trip out to some of the best-preserved reefs in the western Caribbean (boats leave from nearby coastal towns, easiest to reach by car).
- Sambo Creek — a Garifuna coastal community with natural hot springs in the Nombre de Dios mountains.
- Cuero y Salado Wildlife Refuge — mangrove estuary kayaking and wildlife spotting.
